The newly-reorganized Frederick Sister Cities Association (FSCA), which now comes under the Frederick County Landmarks Foundation, recently awarded travel scholarships to two high school students to spend 10 days in Schifferstadt, Germany, Frederick's Sister City. The Frederick Sister Cities Association is providing airfare and the City of Schifferstadt has planned a full schedule of events for the two students which will acquaint them with German customs and culture and will help them to improve their conversational German. The Frederick Sister Cities Association hopes to do this each year and anyone who would like to send a tax-deductible donation to support this endeavor may contact Ronnie Osterman, President of the FSCA, at
Report from Vice President, Professor Noel Lester of his concert trip to Schifferstadt,Germany March 2015 :
I had a very warm welcome from our friends there, including fantastic publicity for the Sister City concert and lots of publicity. Mayor Volk was so excited about the whole thing and it generated lots of press. Katja Zakotnik (the cellist with whom I appeared) and I played 3 concerts--2 in the Schifferstadt area and one in the northern part of Germany. We got 4 reviews for 3 concerts; this would have been unheard of in the U.S. They were very excited to hear that we (FSCA) are planning to go there in the fall of 2016 and they hope that our Mayor will able to come, too. FYI, I have attached one of many articles which appeared. I don't know if any of you read German (I don't), but I thought you might like to see it, anyway. Katja and I will be playing this same program on the summer chamber music series at Hood in July. I am hoping that we can give her as warm a welcome as I received there.
